Digital technology – analogue workflow
Building on the compact all-in-one approach of the LiveTrak L6, the Zoom LiveTrak L6max is designed for users looking to mix and record multi-track audio at the same time. Up to 12 separate tracks alongside a stereo mix can be captured simultaneously, directly to a microSD card, with support for 32-bit float recording at 48kHz. Features such as flexible tap point selection and built-in noise reduction allow recordings to adapt more easily to different environments and production needs. Additional Hi-Z compatible inputs broaden the range of connectable instruments, while the OLED display keeps essential recording and control functions close at hand. Its compact format remains unchanged, making it well suited to recording, rehearsals and streaming setups across a variety of flexible production situations.
Encoder-based channel control
The Zoom LiveTrak L6max is equipped with four combo XLR/jack inputs, including two Hi-Z connections designed for direct use with guitars and basses. Alongside these are four flexible stereo channels with a –20dB pad, two of which can also function as dual mono channels, while the remaining two operate as USB audio returns for routing signals from a computer straight into the mixer. Control is handled through encoders and selectable parameters, with LED rings providing a clear visual overview of levels and current settings. Each channel includes a 3-band EQ with adjustable midrange control, complemented by built-in effects such as reverb and delay, whose timing can be set quickly using the tap function. AI-supported noise reduction is also integrated, helping to reduce unwanted background noise in a range of recording situations.
Compact multitrack recording
The Zoom LiveTrak L6max is aimed at solo musicians, small bands, and content creators looking for a compact yet flexible production setup. Expanded connectivity options, including Hi-Z inputs for direct instrument connection, combine with freely selectable tap points that allow more precise control over signal routing within the recording chain. The unit also works well as a central hub for smaller recording, rehearsal and streaming environments where several audio sources need to be recorded and processed at the same time. Features such as 32-bit float recording, built-in noise reduction and unlimited overdubbing through a dedicated bounce track support a wide range of workflows, while helping to maintain consistent recording quality across different production conditions.
About Zoom
Founded in 1983, the Japanese company Zoom manufactures a variety of audio equipment, including a range of portable "handy" recorders as well as multi-effects processors, effects pedals, drum machines, and samplers. Over the past thirty years, the company has built a reputation for producing innovative yet affordable products based on original microchip designs. Since the Zoom-9002 (an ultra-compact multi-effects processor that can be attached to a guitar strap) was introduced in 1990, Zoom has become one of the leaders in digital audio processing.
Scenes, pads and monitor mix
The submix and monitor outputs make it possible to create two separate monitor mixes that operate independently from the main mix. Signal routing can be configured as pre-fader, pre-fader/post-comp or post-fader, allowing precise selection of the point within the signal chain where audio is tapped. Settings can then be stored across four scene memories for quick recall whenever needed. For additional creative flexibility, four built-in sound pads are included, suitable for triggering sound effects or working as loopers, with convenient MIDI control support. A range of power supply options further enhances portability, as the LiveTrak L6max can run via USB bus power, AA batteries or an external portable battery pack.
In the spotlight
L6 Editor App
The Zoom LiveTrak L6max can be configured via the L6 Editor app for Mac and Windows, where recording modes, battery type, sound pads, tap points, effects and MIDI assignments are adjusted through a structured and clearly organised menu system, allowing adaptation to different working scenarios. It also operates as a USB-C audio interface, providing 14 inputs and 4 outputs at up to 32-bit/48kHz resolution, which enables multi-channel recording and playback within a computer-based workflow. This makes integration into existing production environments straightforward, as multiple audio signals can be processed in parallel while remaining within a DAW setup.
