Monitoring the situation

Part of Adam's professional studio-grade A Series, the Adam A7V is an active nearfield monitor with a tweeter, woofer, and bass reflex port that offers a frequency response from 41Hz up to an incredible 42kHz. The integrated DSP enables precise sound optimisation for any listening environment – owners of an A-series monitor have free access to Adam's A Control software, which offers intuitive and yet fine-grained control over all their devices' parameters. Connected to a computer (Windows or MacOS) via a simple network cable, the speakers can be minutely calibrated – and there's also the option of using preset curves from the Sonarworks SoundID Reference software suite, once studio owners have carried out the necessary room measurement. Other high-end A Series features include the tweeter's special waveguide, which provides controlled sound dispersion for accurate mixes right in the sweet spot. The unique material composition of the woofer is also designed to ensures minimal distortion even at high output levels. Adam Audio has delivered the goods yet again with this flexible, affordable solution for high-quality nearfield studio monitoring.

Designed for effective sound

The Adam Audio A7V nearfield monitor is, as the 7 in its name suggests, fitted with a 7" woofer, which is driven by a 1.3" voice coil. The woofer cone is composed of several layers of a precisely engineered mineral fibre composite which, together with the woofer's specially developed magnets, gives the A7V a remarkably clear and powerful bass response. Adam's proprietary X-ART tweeter uses a special HPS waveguide (High-Frequency Propagation System) for controlled sound dispersion: At the crossover frequencies, it also ensures horizontal alignment with the woofer's dispersion, creating a stable stereo image and a larger sweet spot. On the vertical plane, similarly, reflections caused by the rest of a studio's equipment are reduced. To prevent unwanted resonances, the waveguide is made from a special low-resonance glass-fibre composite.

Acoustically optimised for any space

On the rear panel of the Adam Audio A7V, users will find not only an XLR, an RCA, and a network connection, but also a four-band equaliser equipped with RGB LEDs that indicate the selected settings, which include options to boost the bass by 2dB or cut it by 2dB or 4dB. Another button allows producers to select voicings for the frequency response: While UNR offers listeners a slightly coloured response for an accessible, vibrant sound, Pure provides a wholly neutral and linear response for uncompromisingly accurate monitoring. Selecting Ext, in turn, allows users to patch in additional voicings via the A Control software, which requires a computer connection via the Ethernet port; A Control is also capable of many further filter adjustments to optimise the sound for any listening environment.

Professional monitoring

The Adam A7V is designed for a wide range of professional applications. Music producers are the key target audience here, as the A7V provides a flexible solution for monitoring their mixes: It offers not only a linear and neutral frequency response for precise mastering, but also a more contoured, musical sound profile, which is ideal both for reducing ear fatigue over longer sessions and for a sense of consumer listening settings. Thanks to the rotatable waveguide design, the tweeter can be rotated by 90° or 180°, allowing very flexible installation even in smaller spaces. The integrated DSP is also well-equipped to ensure optimum sound adjustment to the room's acoustics, and with its extended frequency range of up to 42kHz, the monitor is equally suited to work on audiophile productions.

About Adam Audio

ADAM Audio was founded in Berlin in March 1999 and has since been involved in the development, manufacture, and distribution of speakers specifically aimed at the professional audio industry. The company was founded following the development of the X-ART tweeter, itself based on the Air Motion Transformer created by Oscar Heil in the 1960s. Advanced Dynamic Audio Monitors (ADAM) has rapidly set new standards in the world of studio monitors. The company employs over 50 people in its Berlin factory, is distributed in over 75 countries, and has sales offices in both the USA (Nashville) and the UK. The list of renowned studios using ADAM monitors is long and still growing. ADAM Audio has been part of the Focusrite Group since 2019.

Individually calibrated

The Adam A7V's already comprehensive options for sound optimisation – via the four-band equaliser on the rear of unit, as well as the filter settings in the A Control software – are complemented by a nice additional feature here: The package includes a 60-day trial version of Sonarworks SoundID Reference software, which allows calibration curves to be loaded onto the Adam A7V's DSP, to optimise the sound to the listening environment – which can be measured in advance. During this optimisation process, the monitor's DSP handles the processing, leaving more computing power available for the more important production tasks. Room measurement requires a microphone with an omnidirectional polar pattern (sold separately): For particularly accurate measurements, the use of a dedicated measurement microphone is recommended.

The best studio monitor!!
Emil C 31.10.2022
I got these as an upgrade to the previous A7X, and have been using the A8X. A77X and original A7 before along with other brands, such as Genelecs, Yamahas, KRK etc.. The detailed high-end really sets Adam apart from the rest!! The A7v voicing feature is really amazing, having them on the UNR-setting almost eliminates the need for a subwoofer! They sound really big and with a punchy low end, and seem a lot bigger than they are. The ethernet-functionallity is the main reason for my upgrade, being able to tune the speakers to my room with Sonarworks, and having it run in the speakers built-in DSP is a unique feature.

Update: having tried the Sonarworks integration i ended up manually tuning them using REW and a measurement mic. Love the control you have with the internal PEQ. Loving them so much that i´m thinking about upgrading to the A8h - keeping the sound but upgrading to a bigger 3-way... Pricey though.

OMG! Like having the cloth removed from my ears
jackinvox 17.09.2023
A pair of A7V’s have replaced a pair T7V’s that had served me well for years.

Rave review after rave review of the new (at the time) A7V’s piqued my interest enough to give them a try. I have been using them now for almost a year and I am constantly hearing parts and details in recordings that I had missed for decades on other speakers.

The clarity and smooth output of these monitors , combined with the built-in SoundID room correction software, makes me confident my mixes no longer require checking on other systems.

I have dispensed with the extra Yamaha, JBL, and Event monitors I had been using for cross references in my relatively small space (11’ x 13’) and now rely exclusively on the A7V’s.

I can’t imagine a better nearfield monitor at this price point.

SS
Amazing monitor speakers
Svetlin Simeonov 22.07.2024
Got these for almost 11 months now. This is my 4th monitor speaker set. Previuos ones were:

1. JBL 305
2. Kali Audio LP-6
3. KRK Rokit RP5 G4

Soundwise these are perfect and way better than one of the other options I tried.

Pros:
- Perfect sound!
- There is no HISS sound no matter of the big speakers, ( KALI had really nasty HISS )
- LAN Cable Control is perfect, no more going behind desk with flashlight and clicking buttons as others
- They are not so large , and fit very well
- very good freq range: 41Hz - 42 000Hz
- Sonarworks integration

Cons:
- so far only one I found is that these lack auto power off function when not used. Thou for me this is not a problema since I don't like this option and I always have Power button on my desk for speakers only.
- Price, as this is premium speaker, I think it's fair , same price range as Genelec

I paired these with RME ADI-2 Pro and it's now a killer combo
