Good but not good enough
I like the design and fancy look. However like the previous Behringer mic I bought this one is also not so good in picking up sound it’s as if it must be very close to the lips. Perhaps it’s because I use an entry PA system (Behringer), but another mic (a bit more expensive) is much reliable. What it also does it that for it to be heard on the system mics and instruments on the other channels gets reduced (volume). I switched the cables and channels around so it’s this mic. Unfortunately I have to return this mic.

It is what it is
For the price, I can’t really complain, but I can’t recommend it either.
It picks up more handling noise than I’d like. The sound quality is also not very good. I use it as a ‘trash mic’ for when my 4 y/o daughter wants to sing on my small PA at home. Also nice to have as an extra backup if someone wants to join a spontaneous jam session or something.
Build quality seems fine!

Does the job for simple home demos. High handling noise.
Bought it for simple home demo purposes. For the price and for the purpose, it's fine. The handling noise is quite high though, so that's probably enough of a reason to buy something a bit more expensive like a Shure if you can afford one. Also, there's a sticker at the top of the handle with the mic's name/model number printed on it, which is sure to peel off sooner or later, and it looks cheap (reflecting the price of the mic). It feels solid, not plasticky, and has some weight to it.

Its a good starter microphone
The Behringer XM8500 its made from metal, it's black, it have a nice hard plastic case with a useful handle and with a nice foam interior, it makes you feel that is a better product that you would expect at this price point, better than other costly microphones.
I use my XM8500 mainly for speeches and presentations but I think it would be fine for every other vocal application (like singing, screaming and rapping).
The sound you get from it is very clean but i wouldn't recommend it for amp miking as i feel that its sweet spot is within the vocal range. If the sound you want to capture is outside of that range you might experience some attenuation of some frequencies(most noticeable on very low frequencies and very high ones).
It feels sturdy and heavy (not too heavy but heavy enough like the pro mics), the xlr connection is as good as some expensive microphones and the sound range is great with low saturation.
If you need an new microphone and you have a low budget this one is a great option, it is an cool gift for any vocalist and a very useful tool for any studio

Basic but does the job!
Very basic mic. Used for home recording vocals. I'm no singer really, so this just does the job, but I wouldn't use it for backing vocals on a gig. It has no off button, which is the biggest drawback. Cheap, cheerful, very good value. Just be aware at this price you are getting something very basic.
