Balanced monitoring for reliable mixes
The Focal Alpha 65 Evo active two-way monitor builds on the foundation of the earlier Alpha 65, refining its design for a balanced and reliable listening experience. Its 6.5" carbon fibre bass driver works alongside a 1" inverted aluminium dome tweeter, shaped to deliver a wide and even dispersion across the room. Each driver is powered by its own Class D amplifier, providing a combined output of 80W and allowing the speaker to reach up to 104dB SPL. Despite its compact design, it covers an impressive frequency range from 40Hz to 22kHz, combining controlled low-end response with sufficient headroom. With adjustable input sensitivity, tailored bass and treble shelf filters, and a convenient auto standby function, it adapts smoothly to different spaces while remaining efficient in everyday use.
Connectivity and adaptability
Alongside balanced inputs via a 6.35mm jack and XLR, the Focal Alpha 65 Evo also includes an unbalanced RCA connection, making it easy to integrate both professional studio setups and consumer-level equipment. This flexibility supports longer cable runs between the speaker and an audio interface or monitor controller, while also accommodating DJ controllers, hi-fi systems and similar sources. To enhance low-end performance, the housing features a bass reflex design that adds depth without overwhelming the mix. Manual room adjustment provides precise control over bass below 300Hz and treble above 4.5kHz, helping the speaker adapt smoothly to different acoustic environments. With an adjustment range of up to 12dB in the lows and 6dB in the highs, it offers enough flexibility to fine-tune the listening experience with subtle precision.
Content creators and producers
The Focal Alpha 65 Evo is ideally suited to users looking for a balanced monitoring solution that sits between compact nearfield models and larger, more output-driven systems. It provides enough low-frequency extension and headroom for confident mixing decisions, while remaining controlled enough for typical home studio environments. This makes it a strong choice for producers who require a reliable all-round reference for both music production and content creation. As an active monitor, it removes the need for a separate amplifier, combining convenience with practical features such as manual room correction and a range of connection options. Magnetic shielding further enhances its appeal for audiophiles sensitive to interference, helping maintain a clean signal path. The only notable omission is the lack of a digital input, though for many setups this will be a manageable compromise.
About Focal
A French manufacturer based in Saint-Étienne, Focal has been active in the hi-fi sector since 1979. Alongside a core focus on speaker drivers and high-fidelity loudspeakers, the company's portfolio has also expanded since 2002 to include soundbars, car audio solutions, headphones, and monitor speakers that are specifically aimed at studios in terms of materials, design, and features. The company's research and development centres and the majority of its manufacturing facilities are located in France, and Focal's speakers are designed according to the philosophy of uniting functionality and unique aesthetics. To achieve this goal, Focal also works closely with renowned design agencies.
Mixing music and multimedia
The Focal Alpha 65 Evo performs particularly well in versatile studio environments where both accuracy and low-end presence are required. It offers a balanced response that supports detailed mixing across a wide range of material, from music production to video and post-production work. Compared to smaller models, it provides greater confidence when working with bass-forward content, while still remaining manageable in moderately sized rooms without professional acoustic treatment. This makes it well suited to users who need a dependable primary monitoring system for day-to-day production tasks across different formats. For more irregular use, the automatic power-saving function adds convenience by switching the speaker off after 15 minutes of inactivity, and with a weight of under 8kg, it remains easy to position and fits comfortably on most standard monitor stands.
