Very good for the use I have!

This review is only about using it to achieve a massive metal tone on a high gain channel. Don't have used it for any other purpose for now.

a brief introduction:
as it is the case with other people having reviewed the product, I have become aware of this pedal from a Rob Barrett (Cannibal Corpse, in case you just arrived on planet earth) interview.
He has a massive sound. And yes, this pedal helps you get a massive sound.

I don't use it with a rectifier but with a revv generator 7/40.
In general i push my high gain sound with an overdrive in a typical way: level at max, gain at zero and tone wherever I like it. Until I got the maxon I was using either an amptweaker tight drive junior or a Black Arts Tonework Witch burner. Both are great... But for metal, after having compared the three, the maxon is just the best in my opinion.

I use it a bit differently than I would with other drives because I put the drive at 13 and the level around 12. Tone and mids, a bit before twelve. And of course, the low boost is an "always on" option.

And yeah, it does sound massive. Yess it tightens your amp's distortion and pushes all the right mids but the low boost really gives you thaht extra "ooomph" that sounds so killer on mid-tempo heavy rythm. But I must say it sounds equally great on lead parts. I dont' find it muddy at all.

In short:
I don't know (yet) about its versatility but for (death) metal, it just slays, and crushes, and obliterate, and annihilate, and...

well, you got my point anyway...

I wish I bought it before...

(And the extra control dedicated to mid frequencies is an nice thing to have too).
