The search for the right strings

A musician can spend their entire life searching for the right instrument – so finding the right strings should be made as easy as possible. After all, there's a genuine physical connection between players and their strings, which play a huge role in how an instrument feels. The DR Strings Dragon Skin+ DEQB-13/62 Coated are a set of strings for baritone electric guitar, made using high-quality materials and an ultra-thin coating. Thanks to DR's patented manufacturing process, they offer exceptional longevity, yet without introducing any unfamiliar feel – the strings are barely distinguishable from uncoated ones. For anyone looking to give their instrument a real boost in dynamics and volume, DR Strings is a strong choice.

A patented coating

The technical design of the Dragon Skin+ DEQB-13/62 Coated strings is no simple matter; it reflects a very high level of engineering expertise. All but the very lightest strings are wound to ensure both a powerful tone and a comfortable playing feel. The way DR Strings puts this into practice is particularly well executed: The strings are built around a specially adapted steel core, which is wrapped with coated Quantum Nickel. This process brings out the best qualities of the string. This version of the Dragon Skin+ offers a premium playing feel, along with a full, rich tone characterised by an open high end, and a noticeable increase in output compared to uncoated strings. Taken together, this combination can lift a demanding instrument like the baritone guitar to the next level.

An accurate core

Where conditions on stage might once have meant changing strings after each performance, the Dragon Skin+ DEQB-13/62 Coated strings keep going show after show. This is thanks primarily to their outer wrap; it's almost impervious to corrosion and moisture, while simultaneously contributing to the strings' strong, clear resonance. The patented Coated Wrap Wire also ensures that the strings feel great, giving purists exactly the playing sensation they'd expect. But the Dragon Skins aren't just cutting-edge on the outside:With DR's unique Accurate Core Technology, which applies almost microscopic locking grooves to the precisely milled steel core, the wrap sits perfectly within the string's architecture, resulting in a fuller tone and enhanced sustain. These are some high-tech guitar strings, delivering across the board in both sound and feel without compromise.

About DR Strings

Founded in 1989 by Mark Dronge – son of Guild Guitars founder Alfred Dronge – DR Strings is a US-based string manufacturer deeply rooted in a lifelong passion for music and craftsmanship. Drawing on decades of expertise, the family-run company combines premium materials, time-tested production techniques, and skilled artisanship to create diverse string sets designed to unlock the full potential of every instrument. This relentless pursuit of innovation and quality has earned DR Strings the trust of global artists, from Sting and Derek Trucks to Jared James Nichols and Bootsy Collins, making it a go-to choice for discerning musicians worldwide.

An improved experience

Alongside feel and tone, tuning stability is absolutely essential when it comes to strings. Here too, the American manufacturer DR Strings has come up with a smart solution. Accurate Core Technology strengthens the core and evens out natural irregularities, allowing it to form a more consistent bond with the Quantum Nickel winding, which helps the strings stay in tune even when they're played hard. The Dragon Skin+ DEQB-13/62 Coated set is gauged .013, .017, .026w, .036w, .046w, .062w, making it particularly well suited to baritone guitars and lower tunings. At the same time, the strings work just as well in B or A standard tuning, on both extended-scale and regular-scale instruments.

...alternative option worthy of a test drive!

i've been using Elixirs 12-68 for ages on my [fairly uncommon, or rather rare] Ibanez MMM1 baritone neck-through sporting a 28" scale, which i tune B-B, and never really had a reason to look elsewhere – until i did.

it's the 3rd string, what would be the "G" on a non-baritone, standard-scale guitar, that pulled me to try this DR Strings Dragon Skin+ set: it's wound, here, not plain – which is my exact preference!

now mind the step, please: Elixirs don't come with wound-3rd string, unfortunately – so i've always been buying a single .024 wound string along with my Elixir set of choice, in order to have my ideal balance of tone and tension on my 28"-scaled heavier-than-stone baritone.

on my last trip to Thomann online deli, unfortunately, the Elixir Nanoweb .024w string wasn't available, which spoiled my shopping expedition, and turned open a door of opportunity to this DR Strings set.

sound-wise, set delivers the tone that serves my purpose for a baritone: detail-rich, plenty of attack, with all the high-end spark that i need – balanced throughout the full extension of my instrument.

at close inspection, quality looks flawless: no strange hiccups in the outer wrap, which is perfectly sealed at ball-end edge, too, and consistent finish onto any string.

as for surface feel, they're not exactly my cup of tea, though: that slippery sensation i get on Elixirs isn't here (which means a lot of guitarists will probably love these): there's more purchase, more friction, and (consequently) a louder mechanical noise from left-hand fingering, too.

then, peculiar to my guitar seriously long scale, the .062 6th string obviously tunes to a lower tension than the .068 i'm used to, and from this come kinda slower attack, while it's only fair to expect that a shorter scale isn't affected as much, probably.

where they've lost one star in my rating, though, it's on their overall length: 3rd and 4th strings end up significantly shorter on their respective tuning peg of a 3 + 3 headstock, which allows far too few turns around its shaft (and a lot less than the other strings); again, maybe a shorter scale guitar might be less affected by this... but a 6-inline headstock might reveal this shortage on the highest 1st 2nd string potentially, nonetheless.

Po prostu bardzo solidna opcja jeżeli szukasz strun do swojego barytona. Ja mam je w swoim Amaroku i spisują się świetnie. Są trwałe i brzmieniowo bez zarzutu.
