These strings do cost significantly more than many other options, but only in the short term. The consistency of tone over not just months but years is seriously impressive. I have to buy the extra top C for my 6 string bass making it quite an investment, but I?d be paying so much more in an attempt to keep the tone up to scratch with any other make. I usually get a few years out of a set of these.
It could be that the sound of very new strings is not what you are after (not sure how you keep tone consistency in that case, not somewhere I?ve aimed for) you might get frustrated with how well these keep their sound.
It is also possible you play constantly with a pick, and this could wear the coating quicker in that area of the string, but you?d still get way more string life. I only use a pick on a few songs for effect, vast majority is finger playing.
Summary: If you want a lasting clear tone, these are the strings to get.
