K&K Pure 12-String Guitar Pickup

After much debate I had a K&K fitted to a hand made mandolin and I was blown away by how good it was for such simple design so I talked a friend of mine onto fitting one to his 12 string as he couldn't afford an LR Baggs Anthem which I have fitted to all my acoustics except my 12 string which has the K&K fitted now and it is surprisingly good, I highly recommend this product but make sure it is fitted properly

What can I say? By installing this pick-up into my old 12-string, I've given it a new lease of life, being able to use it more easily in a stage set-up. The sound is really spot-on - very clean, not adding any obvious colour of its own. It was a little fiddly to instal, so one of the three pick-ups is slightly out of position because of my sausage fingers; I was worried this might make the sound unbalanced, but it absolutely doesn't. Very pleased with this purchase.

Konnte den Vergleich vom PureMini zum Pure12String an zwei verschiedenen Instrumenten machen. Beide besitzen VollholzFichtenDecken. Einbau jeweils direkt auf der Bridgeplate, ungefähr unter dem Stegeinsatz, mit Sekundenkleber geklebt.
Der Vergleich fing schon an, ohne aufgezogene Saiten, heißt die Decke wurde auf Sensibilität getestet über einen Verstärker. Beide Piezzos sprechen wunderbar an beim Abklopfen, die Sprache ins Schalloch und auf die Decke (MittenFrequenzen) wird vom 12Saiter besser übertragen, die Brillianzen sind aber im Vergleich zum PureMini dezenter ausgeprägt. Das ist nicht negativ für den Einen oder den Anderen, sondern einfach ein anderer Schwerpunkt.
Beim Spielen der aufgezogenen Saiten merkt man dann, dass der Anschlag beim 12Saiter wesentlich präsenter ist, für mich eine Sache des Mischers und EQs am Mischpult, sonst gerät es zu sensibel. Beim PureMini ist das etwas abgemildert, wobei die hohen Saiten bei Solos hier die Brillianzen besser abbilden können, das macht der 12Saiter (chrakteristisch) nicht so stark. Zum Begleiten oder als ZweitGitarre bei Gigs ist das dementsprechend passender und bietet somit ein pfundiges Fundament.
Man merkt ganz klar was der Schwerpunkt ist und ich finde es passend und auch sehr interessant den Vergleich machen zu können. Beide Piezzos sind beim testen durchsetzungsstark und übertragen sensibel die gewünschte Lautstärke (je nach Spielweise).

I use this pickup in a 30 year old Epiphone 12-string for smallish live gigs, some outdoors. If you are reading this, you have probably already read many reviews on the web, most of which say that this is one of the most natural sounding pickups for an acoustic guitar (6 or 12str). I totally agree, and this is a good alternative to using a mic on stage, which is not always ideal. The output is surprisingly strong. For comparison, it needs much less gain than my passive DiMarzio magnetic sound-hole pickup. I have not had the feedback issues that some users report. If you are reasonably comfortable with manual work, you can instal this pickup yourself. Take your time, and measure the space under the saddle carefully. This model is larger than the 6-string version, so in some guitars it's a tight fit. There are many good videos on Youtube to show you how. Enjoy!
